LED Streetlight Retrofit Underway In Davis

The new lights last longer and are more cost-effective and environmentally friendly, the city said.

DAVIS, CA – The City of Davis completed the installation of LED streetlights in most areas of Davis replacing approximately 2,700 “cobrahead” streetlights and 500 “Post-top” streetlights located in West Davis and Mace Ranch, according to the city.

The final phase of the replacement project is being completed this week, replacing the remaining “decorative” post-top style streetlights downtown.

"The new LED lights last more than three times longer than the old streetlights. They are more efficient and save money, energy and greenhouse gas emissions," city officials said. "The conversion of the 100-plus existing streetlights in the downtown area will take approximately five days."

Each replacement takes a short time and any temporary disruptions to traffic should be minimal.

Several of the LED fixtures have been in testing for more than year in front of the Yolo Federal Credit Union at 5th and G Streets without any reported issues, the city said.
