• UC Davis Professor Recognized (westsacramentonewsledger.com) — UC Davis residents can take pride in Distinguished Professor Walter Leal, who has earned the 2026 Applied Chemical Ecology Award for his pioneering work on insect chemical communication and pest control. Based in UC Davis's College of Biological Sciences, Leal's research has produced numerous patents and practical tools to protect crops and reduce disease spread worldwide.
   

• Congressional Candidate Eric Jones Calls for Federal Limits on Flock Surveillance Network (davisvanguard.org) — From Davis, congressional candidate Eric Jones is pushing a federal crackdown on Flock Safety's license plate surveillance network, which already operates across most counties in his district. His plan would pause government use of Flock's system, require warrants for most historical vehicle tracking, ban nationwide private databases of drivers' movements, and impose criminal penalties for officers who misuse the technology.
