Davis Phoenix Coalition Appoints New Director to Advance Anti-Hate Mandate (davisvanguard.org) — A Davis-based anti-hate nonprofit, the Davis Phoenix Coalition, has appointed longtime community advocate Sandré Henriquez Nelson as its new executive director, succeeding founder Gloria Partida. Henriquez Nelson plans local listening sessions, stronger fundraising, and expanded volunteer and board capacity as the group continues Davis PrideFest, anti-bullying events, and school trainings to support marginalized residents across Davis and Yolo County. 
2. Hate-Free Together invites community to participate in survey for brand feedback (dailydemocrat.com) — Davis residents are being asked to weigh in on the future name and logo of Hate-Free Together, a partnership between the city, UC Davis, DJUSD, Yolo County, and education officials. An online survey open through Sept. 25 invites locals to share how the brand reflects community values, suggest new names or symbols, and even submit logo ideas for this anti-hate initiative.
3. Fall Campaign Sponsors Former Foster Youth Studying at UC Davis (westsacramentosun.com) — In Davis, local nonprofit Make It Happen for Yolo County is asking residents to sponsor UC Davis Guardian Scholars—students who've experienced foster care—as they move into housing this fall. Community members can fund essentials like furniture, household goods, and bicycles at several donation levels through mid-October, helping former foster youth create safe, stable homes while they study at UC Davis.
4. What UC Davis Lab Discovered About Aphids and Milkweed (independentvoice.com) — UC Davis researchers in Davis have found that sticky honeydew from aphids on milkweed can actually boost milkweed growth, making plants taller and heavier. Their lab work at the Orchard Park Research Facility suggests aphids may shape local plant communities through belowground soil changes, offering new insight for gardeners and conservationists who rely on milkweed for pollinators and monarchs.
