Davis police said in an update that family members notified them the 21-year-old was safe. Detectives are continuing their investigation.

DAVIS, CA — UPDATED: Davis police detectives have spoken with family members of a Sacramento man who may have been kidnapped in his own truck during a home-invasion robbery. The armed robbery was reported Tuesday night at an apartment at 516 K St. in Davis, according to a statement from the Davis Police Department. Officers who responded to the residence determined the robbery ended with the possible kidnapping of 21-year-old Amani Marquis Sandoval-Jones of Sacramento, whose whereabouts were unknown Wednesday, police said.

In an update Wednesday evening, Davis police said: "After releasing information regarding the earlier reported kidnapping involving Amani Marquis Sandoval-Jones ... police detectives have now spoken with the victim’s family members who have confirmed he is safe. Detectives have yet to contact the victim in this case and this is still an open investigation."

In Davis PD's initial news release about the case, police said officers learned through interviewing three men who live at the apartment and were home Tuesday night that a masked man walked in, brandished a handgun and demanded money from them.

When the residents said they did not have any money, the suspect reportedly pointed the gun at Sandoval-Jones and ordered him to come with him, police said.

Sandoval-Jones complied and left the apartment with the suspect, police were told.
