DAVIS, CA – In an effort to curb a recent spree of laptop robberies at local coffee shops, including one on Tuesday night, the Davis Police Department today released a video and a request to the public to come forward with any information on the crimes.

Over the last two months, several coffee-shop patrons fell victim to these "strong-arm" robberies perpetrated by "young males," police said, adding they believe the crimes may be related and part of a regional trend.

"In these cases, the suspects entered a coffee shop, looked around, and began grabbing laptop computers," the agency said. "In some cases, the suspects grabbed computers out of the hands of people sitting at tables conducting business or studying. Some victims attempted to retain their property, and the suspects responded with violence. At least two victims suffered minor injuries."

Anyone who is a witness or victim of such crimes should attempt to get as much information at the scene as possible and immediately call 911, police said.

"While some have been brave, and tried to chase the suspects to recover their property, for your own safety, we do not recommend this," the department added. "Once again we remind you to record all your serial numbers on your electronics so that we have a better chance at getting them back to you if recovered."
