Wallet Thefts From Handbags On Rise In Davis

Davis PD offers some simple reminders to protect your property.

DAVIS, CA – The following announcement is from the Davis Police Department:

The Davis Police Department has seen an uptick in wallet thefts in the past month. In each case, the theft took place at a grocery store and the victim’s wallet was removed from the victim’s purse while it was sitting in a shopping cart.

Below are some crime prevention tips to help curb wallet thefts:

• Don’t leave purses open or unattended in shopping carts. Victims reported thefts happening in less than 30 seconds.
• Carry your purse close to your body and keep your purse closed.
• Be wary of individuals that strike up conversations with you in an attempt to distract you from your belongings.
• Immediately report thefts to the police department and your financial institutions.
