Yolo County: Winters Fire Containment Up; Evacuations Lifted

Breaking: While containment has improved and evacuations have been lifted, firefighters face difficult conditions, according to Cal Fire.

YOLO COUNTY, CA -- Firefighters were making good progress Friday afternoon, officials said of the Winters Fire, which has grown to 1,932 acres in size. Some 580 fire personnel are assigned to the blaze southwest of Winters and are working on improving containment and control lines, according to Cal Fire.

At 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, the wildland fire was 31 percent contained, and mandatory evacuation orders were lifted for residents of Golden Bear Estates and Los Positos Estates. Highway 128 remained closed near the Napa County Line, just east of Markley Cove, to Pleasants Valley Road in Yolo County.

"Firefighters are making good progress this afternoon, however erratic winds and steep terrain are challenging suppression efforts," Cal Fire officials said in a Friday afternoon update, noting that crews were also dealing with temperatures of over 100 degrees.
