Additionally, for the first time in the history of this event, honorary degree conferral distinguishing Vallejo natives, C.C. Sabathia, New York Yankees Pitcher and Mrs. Amber Sabathia, along with Mrs. Jean Sunny Johnson Wright will kick off the program.

β€œCelebrating the life and achievements Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., made to our nation is a gift. The β€œLiving the Dream” award embodies what MLK gave of himself to the world, albeit we can never replace his legacy, honoring those in our local community that work hard to make a difference is what we strive to achieve,” shared Dr. Karen McCord, SCC Psychology Professor/UMOJA Coordinator.

β€œAll are encouraged to attend this event! It is sure to delight the hearts of every generation, as we reflect on the leaders of yesterday who graciously paved the way for our leaders of today and tomorrow. A call to service and leadership will be issued and we look forward to a favorable community response. There is much work left to be accomplished.”
