Bites Nearby: Katy's Korner in San Ramon

in San Ramon is tucked into a little corner in a strip mall on San Ramon Valley Boulevard. It is a great place to enjoy breakfast or lunch. The restaurant is great for a family that is divided about proper breakfast fare since the entire menu is served from the 7 a.m. opening to the 2 p.m. closing.

Katy's Korner is known for its eggs Benedict — all 10 varieties, ranging from $9.95 to $11.95. On a recent visit I had the Dungeness crab Benedict. There was lots of crab meat under cooked spinach under eggs in an English muffin that is covered with Hollandaise sauce. It came with what I would call home fries. These cubed potatoes were soft, seasoned perfectly and mixed with bits of onion that had been in the frying pan and were dark and delicious. This dish cost $11.95 and I believe it was a good low-calorie choice (or so I told myself).

There are many breakfast choices at Katy's Korner, including several omelets in the $10-$13 range. 

There also are egg combos, such as calamari steak and eggs or trout and eggs. Katy's also has waffles, pancakes and french toast. Specials run $10.95 and include tasty breakfast dishes such as blintzes with fresh berries and huevos rancheros. 

Kids can choose from three breakfast dishes for $6.25.

If you're in the mood for lunch, there are seven burgers in the $8.95 to $11.95 range and include turkey, calamari jack and garden burgers. My companion had the BBQ bacon burger with cheddar cheese and french fries for $9.95. It was a big, juicy burger! 

The menu also features BLTs, tuna supreme and a chicken quesadilla for $8.50 to $10.95. 

There are light and healthy selections such as a half sandwich and soup for $8.95.

Five large salad choices are available for $9.95 to $12.95 and there's fish and chips for $13.95.

Katy's Korner is a cute little place that will make you feel right at home. On nice days be sure to sit on the deck.
