End of Summer

A wrap up of current events in Dublin.

Dear Residents and Friends of Dublin,

As the summer winds down, so have my hopes for a Bay Area baseball team making it to the post-season. However, my sporting spirits have been lifted by the Dublin High School Gaels football team, , John Wade. Go Gaels!

New Arrivals

Around the city, there is lots to report. As a councilman, no question has been asked more of me in the past six months than, "When is Johnny Garlic's opening?"  I'm pleased to report it's open and doing well! The Kobe Beef Dip is a must try and the bananas foster demands you save room for dessert.

Coming Soon

Caruso Affiliated, a retail developer has purchased the vacant 14-acre piece of property across the street from Sybase at Dublin Blvd. & Hacienda. Caruso has devloped several high-end retail projects in Southern California, and I'm excited to see what they have in mind for Dublin. This project will hopefully re-charge economic development, particularly in the Dublin Blvd./Hacienda area.

Effective November 1, Paramedics Plus will be the new emergency medical services provider for Alameda County, replacing AMR. Paramedics Plus was awarded the bid last year when the county sent the emergency medical services contract to an open request for proposal (RFP). I am not only delighted with the color scheme of the new ambulances that will soon be dispatched to save folks in need (Dublin Green), but also with the comprehensive services Paramedics Plus will offer, at a competitive rate. As a member of the Alameda County Fire Advisory Commission, I will continue to provide input to our Fire Chief, Sheldon Gilbert, on how Fire and Medical can better serve our community.

Housing Market Update

Last month I attended the BayEAST real estate summit, where I was briefed on the status of the East Bay's housing market. It was a mixture of good news and bad news.  Locally, in Dublin, the number of listings is lower than the rest of the Tri-Valley, which indicates people generally enjoy living in Dublin aren't looking to leave, and aren't so financially burdened that they have to short-sell. From January to July, the Days on Market for attached homes in the Dublin area is around 47.  The median detached home price was $555,000. For attached homes, the Days on Market is around 61, with the median home price being $317,500.

Proud Brother

My proudest day over the last few months was on Friday, September 9, when my little brother Jacob graduated from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office Recruit Academy in Dublin. Jacob graduated from the 147th Academy Class. Our father, Eric, graduated from the 36th Academy Class. Jacob will start his career in Dublin, assigned as a deputy at the Santa Rita Jail. He put in six months of hard work and determination and it paid off. Congratulations, Jacob!
