For every cooked meal there is a story: Grandma's famous pie recipe, the meal that your kids absolutely love, or your husband's favorite casserole. Whatever the recipe they must be derived from somewhere, right?
Being an avid cook and foodie, I always scour through tons of email blasts and weekly blog posts of some of my favorite writers and fellow cooks. Some of the best recipes I've found come from just reading an article or word of mouth from a friend. When I want to entertain, I usually opt for SmittenKitchen or Food Network. For organic and fresh/light cooking I use Real Simple. (Their nifty tear outs in the magazine are wonderful for last minute recipe adds to your box, not to mention very easy to follow. For experimental cooking I turn to a beloved blogger. Her whim and wit in the name of fancyfoodfancy never disappoints. I also have a slew of recipes which I've acquired through my mother. She loves to cook and her recipes have been staples in my family for years.
Where do your recipes come from? What do you look for when reading up on the latest and greatest in the cooking world? (Psst! If you go to a used bookstore and buy a cook book, be sure to flip the pages. I once found someone's pie crust recipe tucked within the folds of an original "The Joy of Cooking" cookbook and was giddy to know I would be using it one day. What a great find!)
