East Bay Congressman Visits Dublin High Civics Students
During his visit, Congressman Eric Swalwell solicited students' feelings following a divisive election.
DUBLIN, CA — In the wake of recent Bay Area student protests, East Bay Congressman Eric Swalwell made a visit to his alma mater in Dublin to touch base with some of his youngest constituents. The visit with more than 50 civics students at Dublin High was planned long before the election but conversation between Swalwell and the teens inevitably touched upon the feeling in the community post-election.
According to a post on Swalwell’s social media, the students felt at disappointed and fearful about the incoming administration.
“Congressman Swalwell was invited two DHS Civics teachers before the election to come and talk after it was over about moving forward as a nation,” school district officials said in a statement. “He kept the appointment after the election, and came to campus to talk to approximately 60 DHS students. He solicited their feelings about the results in the light of heated post-election rhetoric and encouraged them to stand up for the causes and principles that align with their beliefs and to become part of the political process."
