Frosty's Little Friends

A school snowman building contest snowballs into success.

You don't have to drive all the way to Tahoe to see or even build a snowman. recently held a snowman building contest and, in my opinion, all of the entries were just "snow-riffic."

This creative, school wide event was hosted by student leadership.

"They (student leadership kids) worked really hard getting everyone involved" said Mrs. Moylan, a fourth grade teacher and student leadership advisor at Green.

"I just love, love, love all the kids here at John Green!  They have so much spirit!"

The participants were given very little direction other than to "create a miniature snowman" using ANY materials from home (cotton balls, toothpicks, clay, sugar cubes, etc.). With that, kids went to work and in the end, over 100 snowmen were created.

Each snowman was unique just like a snowflake. There were snowmen of all sizes, colors and materials. Just look through all the photo's posted and try to find your favorite. It's hard to choose just one, but no matter which one you like the best, you will have to agree, there were definitely "snow" losers in the contest.

All of the snowmen have been on display in the multipurpose room at Green Elementary since last week.  The teachers at Green judged each entry and about 6-7 winners, one from each grade level, were announced school-wide, on Friday. The winners each received a gift card to Blush Frozen Yogurt.

"I can't wait until next year," said one third grade boy, "I already have an awesome idea."

John Green's, Create a Snowman Contest, sounds like it's on its way to becoming an annual event for kids at Green; an event that promotes school spirit, creativity and embraces all its students, no matter what you celebrate this season.

Happy Parenting!
