DUBLIN, CA — Longtime Dublin resident Michael McCorriston announced Thursday his candidacy for the Dublin City Council race to be decided in November.

McCorriston, a 26-year Dublin resident and local volunteer, said he has 35 years of experience in finance and banking, and seeks to ensure Dublin makes fiscally sound decisions as the city stares down anticipated budget shortfalls in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

McCorriston has served as assistant treasurer for Fremont information technology company SYNNEX Corporation since 2007, according to his LinkedIn profile. SYNNEX has brought in nearly $24 billion in revenue over the past year, according to Yahoo! Finance.

“As a council member, I will use my leadership experience in finance to ensure city resources are balanced with sound fiscal strategies and to objectively evaluate initiatives that are truly in the best interest of Dublin," he said in a written statement announcing his candidacy.

McCorriston, who said he volunteers for housing and human services organizations, plans to focus on the city's cost of living and growth strategy. He seeks to ensure open spaces are protected while prioritizing the re-development of existing buildings and growing the local workforce, among other things.

"The decisions we make today are the legacy for future generations of Dublin families," he said in the statement. "Let’s work together to maintain Dublin’s unique heritage in the Tri-Valley.”

Former City of Dublin Planning Commissioner Adib Nassar has endorsed McCorriston, according to the statement.

“Mike has the right mix of business acumen and concern for our community’s future,” Nassar said. “Dublin would surely benefit from his skills and strong work ethic.”

McCorriston holds a master's degree in business from the University of San Diego and a bachelor's degree in business finance from San Jose State University.

Dublin city councilmembers are elected at-large. The two seats currently held by Vice Mayor Arun Goel and Councilmember Melissa Hernandez will be up for election come November.

Goel is running for mayor of Dublin, since Mayor David Haubert's term is up and Haubert is running to represent the region on the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.
