Power Shutoff Fallout: DSRSD To Spend $250,000 On Backup System

The move comes after intentional PG&E power shutoffs that have some local governments wondering how they can keep their lights on.

The investment would make it possible for officials to monitor and control water distribution.

TRI-VALLEY, CA — After a recent wave of intentional power shutoffs during spells of hot, dry and windy weather in California, the Dublin San Ramon Services District voted to approve a $250,000 investment in a backup power system to ensure that officials can monitor and control water distribution if Pacific Gas & Electric Co. pulls the plug, DanvilleSanRamon.com first reported.

The vote came during the Jan. 7 meeting. This brings the total budget for the agency's renovations at its corporation yard and administration facilities to $8.1 million from $7.9 million.

DSRSD plans to have a backup generator and uninterruptible power supply system designed to operate the water distribution system. Other upgrades will be performed simultaneously, such as lighting upgrades in the warehouse and safety studies.
