TRI-VALLEY, CA, CA – New year, new resolves?

The Livermore Police Department this week published wise advice for keeping track of your personal belongings in the unfortunate event you are a victim of theft or burglary.

Take some time at the beginning of this new year to "journal" your possessions.

"If the unfortunate does happen and you are the victim of a theft, having a detailed description of your stolen property, including the serial number, ready for law enforcement can assist in the recovery of your property," the department said.

"Your serial number and a description of your property will be entered into a national database system. If an officer anywhere in the United States comes across suspected stolen property, they run the serial number of that property in the national database system and if the serial number associated with that property is in the system, the officer will recover the property," police said.
