On Mother’s Day—Sunday, May 8—the DIVAS from the Downtown Women’s Center will make their annual pilgrimage to the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock with a Spoken Word Performance—Stretch Marks & Other Stories of Growth—that promises to be enlightening, funny, and provocative. Sponsored in part by a grant from the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, the DIVAS (Dames Invested in Very Authentic Storytelling) have been performing for the past five years—from Skid Row to West Hollywood.
Under the direction of theatre veteran Michael Kearns, ladies from Skid Row dispel myths while illuminating downtown life that is often stereotyped and misunderstood. The DIVAS are a multi-faceted group of ladies from various cultures and backgrounds who unite is telling stories that make a difference.

The matinee performance of Stretch Marks, at 4:00 PM, is free and open to the public. There will be free raffle tickets as well as complimentary Hors d'œuvre and desserts.
