3 Baby Ospreys Born Atop WWII Crane Get Names

They've reached the age where they're so ugly they're cute. And what do you think of their names - regal or lame?

RICHMOND, CA — Their adorable white down is gone and they don't have flight feathers yet, leaving them looking like gangly teenagers. Like many adolescents, they have perfected looking annoyed when you try to take their picture.

The last time we showed you their photo they were newborn chicks waiting for a meal. The Golden Gate Audubon Society (GGAS) has set up a nestcam.

The osprey parents are Rosie and Richmond - for Rosie-the-Riveter and the city of Richmond.

Now that the chicks are nearly grown, it's time for names. Hundreds of suggestions were submitted. The winners: Roemer, Victory and Brisa. According to the SF Bay Ospreys Facebook page, here's how the names were chosen, "Roemer, in honor of Elsie Roemer, a GGAS conservationist who worked tirelessly to protect birds and their habitats. Victory, in honor of the shipyard workers of Richmond who built the Victory (and the Liberty ships), including the Red Oak Victory, neighbor to the Whirley Crane nest site. The youngest chick is named Brisa, which means breeze in Spanish. May s/he enjoy an easy breezy life."
