New Fire Chief: El Cerrito Promotes From Within
Michael Pigoni joined the El Cerrito Fire Department in 1995.

EL CERRITO, CA — Michael Pigoni, who started as an El Cerrito firefighter in 1995, was recently named the city's new fire chief.
Pigoni succeeded former Chief Lance Maples effective Dec. 31, according to a news release from city officials.
He was promoted to captain in 2000 and then to battalion chief in 2007. Over the years, Pigoni has been responsible for overseeing the fire department's fleet, securing grants and developing the agency's technical rescue capabilities.

Pigoni is a strike team and task force leader as well as a member of the East Bay Incident Management Team.
