• Elk Grove man convicted of defrauding COVID-era program (justice.gov) — An Elk Grove resident has been convicted in federal court of wire fraud for abusing COVID-era business relief loans, including a $1 million Economic Injury Disaster Loan he largely gambled away. Prosecutors say he misused hundreds of thousands of dollars from multiple pandemic programs, and he now faces a potential lengthy prison sentence when he appears for sentencing in January 2027.
   

• Judge denies diversion for driver accused in death of Elk Grove motorcyclist (cbsnews.com) — A Sacramento County judge has denied diversion for the driver accused in a crash that killed 23‑year‑old motorcyclist Connor Lopez on Sheldon Road in Elk Grove, clearing the way for a November trial. Lopez's family continues weekly safety gatherings at the crash site and is backing state legislation to limit diversion in misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter cases.
