Kitchen 4140’s Delectable Delights: California Cuisine Bistro Style

Chef Kurt Metzger of Kitchen 4140 will be demonstrate signature California bistro style dishes at the Encinitas Foodie Fest Saturday, June 23rd from 1:45-2:30.

When Chef Kurt Metzger opened Kitchen 4140, he was concerned that it would interfere with his burgeoning catering business. Now the restaurant is doing so well, it is overshadowing his initial foray into the culinary industry. In fact, Chef Kurt plans to expand by adding Saturday night dinner service.

Kitchen 4140′s hip vibe incorporates trendy orange modern accents and a whimsical cardboard cutout of a cow displaying cuts of beef. Drawing from Southern California’s exceptional farmers, Chef Kurt describes his food as “ingredient-inspired and ingredient-driven.” The result is pure, clean flavors, grounded by flawless classic technique. Combined with extraordinary artistic plating, Kitchen 4140 takes the restaurant dining experience to the next level.

One specialty of the house is the not-to-be-missed, melt-in-your-mouth house smoked salmon. Chef Andy Welsh explained the old adage, “If you want  something done right, do it yourself.” Another stellar standout is the blissful Lemon Semifredo paired with fresh local strawberries and julienned basil created by pastry chef extraordinaire, Kat Johnson. The dessert is made entirely with locally sourced ingredients. In fact, the staff started a kitchen garden adjacent to a cute outdoor picnic style dining area.
