Encinitas council directs staff to ease off on some short-term rental policies (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Encinitas officials are moving to relax some inspection and permitting rules for legal short-term rentals while cracking down harder on nearly 300 unpermitted units. Councilmembers backed longer, three-year permits and clearer rules for revoking inactive ones, along with stronger collection of the city's bed tax. Hosts say they welcome less red tape but still want relief from burdensome on-site requirements.

Locals are credited with quickly embracing its bright, seasonal menu, which includes inventive grain bowls and elevated brunch dishes. The piece also notes how spots like this are helping turn Encinitas and nearby beach towns into a serious culinary destination.
   

3. Is your Starbucks closing? Hundreds gather to remember good Samaritan killed in suspected DUI crash in Encinitas (10news.com) — A beloved 73-year-old rideshare driver was killed while helping crash victims on northbound I-5 in Encinitas, and hundreds of relatives and friends just gathered to honor him. His family remembers him as a tireless good Samaritan, calls for justice in the suspected DUI case, and is receiving community support through a fundraising campaign for funeral expenses.
   

5. The Forum, valued at $200M, sells to national investing firm (thecoastnews.com) — A major Carlsbad shopping center right on the Encinitas border, The Forum, has been sold to national firm EDENS in a deal valuing the property at over $200 million. While no expansion is planned, the new owner says it will look for ways to upgrade the customer experience and work closely with nearby communities, including Encinitas shoppers who frequent the center's restaurants and stores.
