• Engineering study finds Coast Highway bridge in Encinitas in 'poor' condition (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Encinitas officials say the Coast Highway 101 bridge over the San Elijo Lagoon is rated in "poor" condition but remains safe, with major repair work likely about five years away. The city is pursuing federal grant funding, weighing costly upgrades like wider walkways, and has a new 10-year plan to address conditions on all 46 local bridges, including structures in Leucadia Oaks Park.
   

• California Named the Stores. Forty-One San Diego County Locations Received Happy Hens Eggs, and the Recalled Date Codes Were Packed in August — After Almost Every Illness in This Outbreak. (lexblog.com) — Encinitas shoppers should know that several local stores, including Fox Point Farms, Harvest Ranch, Lofty Encinitas, and Nectarine Grove, received Happy Hens eggs now under recall for a Salmonella outbreak. State health officials say 23 Californians have been sickened, and advise anyone with these organic eggs to discard them or seek a refund, sanitize surfaces, and contact a doctor if they became ill.
   

• A day of music near the beach kicks off weeklong Sessions Surf Festival in Encinitas (timesofsandiego.com) — Encinitas residents can catch the Sessions Surf Festival all week, culminating in three nights of surf films and panel discussions at the historic La Paloma Theatre from Thursday to Saturday. After a kickoff concert at Seaside Reef in Cardiff, the festival continues with free surf contests at Seaside Reef and a surf-art exhibit in Carlsbad, blending local surf culture, music, and film.
