Encinitas will look into red-light camera pilot project (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Encinitas is moving toward a possible red-light camera pilot program, asking staff to study new, lower-cost, more privacy-protective systems that could be installed at busy intersections near schools. Councilmembers, sheriff's officials, and residents are split between safety benefits and surveillance concerns, especially at Encinitas Boulevard crossings where pedestrians and cyclists are most at risk.
