Positive Community Response to Helping People in Need
North County residents support Assistance League Rancho San Dieguito to raise monies to assist neighbors in need.
Assistance League Rancho San Dieguito (ALRSD) held its annual fundraiser, April Affair, at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort on April 16th. The Encinitas City Council was honored at the event for its financial support of ALRSD’s philanthropic program, Operation School Bell (OSB). Encinitas Mayor Kristen Gaspar accepted the award for the Council. The City Council and the Mizel Family Foundation provide funding for the city’s Community Grants program, which has focused media and public attention on Operation School Bell every year since 2006. Donations to OSB over these past ten years have totaled more than $34,000.
Operation School Bell provides new clothing to civilian and military children whose families are struggling financially. This year ALRSD provided over $80,000 in new clothes for local elementary school children from Encinitas, Solana Beach, Carlsbad, Carmel Valley and Del Mar. Assistance League Rancho San Dieguito is an all-volunteer organization and grant funding is one way its philanthropic programs are able to serve local communities.
Assistance League Rancho San Dieguito was honored to have special guests at April Affair including Senator Patricia Bates, District 36, and Carlsbad City Councilwoman Lorraine Wood. The Mistress of Ceremonies was Pat Brown of Day Tripper Tours and a recognizable presence in San Diego since serving most recently as Chief Weather Anchor at ABC Channel 10. Authors David and Victoria Povall discussed their co-writing style and their most recent novel, The Gift of the Twin Houses. Entertainment was provided by Transfer Tribute, a premier Manhattan Transfer Tribute vocal quartet.
