LAPD Catches Alleged Burglars on Roof of Pot Shop

Two men are taken into custody at the Vapors clinic on Sherman Way in North Hollywood.

Here are the details from the scanner report:

2:35 a.m. 13432 Sherman Way, North Hollywood
The LAPD dispatcher radios North Hollywood units that there is a report of a possible burglary suspect on the roof of the Vapors medical marijuana clinic. Initially, police were notified of a tripped burglar alarm at the business. There is no description of any potential robbers at the time.

2:43 a.m. An LAPD unit arrives on the scene and observes someone coming off the roof "on the Sherman Way column."

2:44 a.m. Another LAPD patrol unit has arrived on the scene and advises the dispatcher that he has "eyes on the suspects." He describes another two men "dressed in all black clothing" and they are still on the roof of the medical marijuana clinic.

2:46 a.m. The lead officer on the scene radios dispatch that there are just three patrol units on the scene. He requests additional patrol units to the location to contain any of the alleged burglars who may attempt to flee.

2:47 a.m. One of the North Hollywood patrol units has located "a Toyota Corrola with the windows down." The officer radios the sergeant on the scene that the car has a "medical marijuana" motto on it and "smells like weed." The officer comments that this is possibly the burglars' vehicle.

2:53 a.m. Several LAPD North Hollywood patrol units are now at the scene of the burglary in progress. They advise they have observed two or more burglary suspects on the roof of the Vapors medical marijuana clinic. They radio the dispatcher for "air support" from a police helicopter.

2:55 a.m. Another LAPD patrol unit on the south end of the property gives an update of the incident to the sergeant on the scene. The patrol unit has observed the alleged burglars getting ready to jump off the roof top, but when they noticed the officers, they ducked for cover instead.

2:56 a.m. One of the patrol units on the west side of the property radios that they observe two of the possible burglars on the roof and "they have their hands up."

2:57 a.m. LAPD uses a loudspeaker to instruct the alleged burglary suspects to come down off the roof. The alleged burglars, their hands still up, are now walking to the edge of the roof where they possibly climbed up. These two alleged burglars are taken into custody.

3:05 a.m. The LAPD helicopter, Air 16, is now flying over the medical marijuana dispensary and observes possibly "one or two bedded down on top of the roof." The helicopter unit is also using its "heat sensing" goggles to spot if there are any more possible burglary suspects, but for the moment, the infrared-sensing equipment isn't picking up anything else.

3:06 a.m. The lead officer advises they may need "K-9" (police canine unit) on the scene. The helicopter unit observes a trash bin area as a possible hiding area for any of the alleged burglars, but is not getting any "heat signatures" from the infrared equipment. The helicopter unit comments that some burglary suspects could still be inside the medical marijuana shop.

3:09 a.m. The LAPD helicopter advises that there is a "point-of-entry" door on the roof near the video store and it is has been opened, possibly pried open by the burglars. Because of the opened door, the air unit radios that "it's worthy of a dog search."

3:10 a.m. LAPD shuts down all lanes of Sherman Way between Varna Street and Woodman Avenue. The lead officer states that he has a "shotgun on point at the west end" to maintain cover for the officers, in case there is gunfire from the roof top. LAPD K-9 is called to assist at the scene.

3:15 a.m. LAPD officers on the scene have interviewed the alleged burglars that are now in custody and believe that they may not have been the ones to access the interior of the medical marijuana dispensary. The officers are requested to bring the men to the command post at Varna Street and Sherman Way.

3:25 a.m. One of the LAPD officers radios the sergeant at the burglary scene and gives a description of the two alleged burglars that are still outstanding. They are described as "two black males, suspect number one is wearing a dark-colored hoodie with a backpack, and suspect number two is also wearing a dark-colored hoodie, with purple skinny jeans."

3:44 a.m. LAPD on the scene believe there may have been up to four possible burglars involved in this incident. Two of the suspects, one wearing "purple skinny jeans" and the other wearing "a dark-colored hoodie" may still be inside Vapors or may have already fled the scene.

4:00 a.m. LAPD K-9 unit arrives on the scene. A key to enter the Vapors property has been obtained and the K-9 police officers, along with the police dog search the interior. After a good amount of time searching any possible areas inside, it is determined that there are no more possible burglars inside the premises. The LAPD incident commander calls off the search, and all patrol units are sent back to regular patrol.
