Police Scanner Report: Citizen Foils Grand Theft Auto
Here are the raw data reports of some calls heard on the police scanner.

July 30, 2011
11:45 p.m. 8100 block of Teesdale Avenue, North Hollywood
North Hollywood Division LAPD receives a call reporting "10 males fist-fighting in the street." Patrol units are directed to respond "code 3" (with lights and sirens).

11:48 p.m. Kewen Avenue and Debell Street, Pacoima
LAFD Rescue 898 is dispatched to a "person down" at Kewen Avenue and Debell Street.

11:50 p.m. Los Angeles Coliseum, Los Angeles
LAFD Rescue 9 radios Operations Command Dispatch that they are "escorting a patient with blunt head/altered, from a fall, to California Hospital." The patient is an attendee at the "L.A. Rising" music concert event, featuring the bands "Rage Against the Machine" and "Muse." The patient was found allegedly under the influence of an unknown substance, who subsequently fell down and injured his head.

2:49 p.m. Vineland Avenue and Saticoy Street, North Hollywood
LAFD is called to the scene to help a person who has overdosed.
2:53 p.m. 7500 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, North Hollywood
North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are dispatched to the scene of an "ADW suspect there now" (assault with a deadly weapon suspect is still at the scene) in an incident of domestic violence. A caller also reports that the alleged suspect, a male, has broken into the female's apartment. North Hollywood patrol units are directed to respond "code 3."
2:54 p.m. 7500 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, North Hollywood
Another person calls in from the scene of the "ADW suspect there now" and reports "unknown number of (people) fighting" and the presence of "broken glass."
2:55 p.m. 7500 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, North Hollywood
The watch commander informs the responding patrol units that the alleged suspect is possibly the boyfriend assaulting the girlfriend in her apartment. Witnesses observe that the woman is still screaming and crying for help, and the male "gained entry" by breaking through the window.
2:57 p.m. 7500 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, North Hollywood
One of the North Hollywood patrol units radios in regarding any further updates to the incident. The watch commander advises that the alleged assailant is "still inside" (the woman's apartment). The watch commander also informs the patrol units that they are responding to a "large apartment complex." Another person calls in reporting a "woman screaming" at the location, and the patrol units are given the apartment's address.
(Note: sometimes when patrol units arrive at a location, for many different reasons further radio transmissions cannot be heard. Maybe it is the strength of their transmitting signals from where they are, or maybe it is the surroundings, like large concrete walls, that prevent clear radio signals. Or maybe it is the technical limitations of the receiving unit (the scanner) or where it is stationed. Due to any of these circumstances, It is not known what happened next, when the patrol units arrived at the apartment complex.)
3:03 p.m. 10500 block of Willard Street, Sun Valley
Foothill Division LAPD originally called to the scene of an "unknown trouble call" (a call received by police where the caller does not or cannot communicate the need for assistance) are now advised that another call has come in from the same location. The landlord at the address is reporting that a person (possibly a tenant, or former tenant) is fighting and destroying property at the residence.
3:40 p.m. Stadium Way and Academy Road, Elysian Park
Northeast Division LAPD patrol units are called to the scene of a "415 man" (man causing a fight) assaulting another person at the Dodger Stadium parking lot. Patrol units are directed to respond "code 3."
3:40 p.m. Normandie Avenue and 40th Place, near Exposition Park
Southwest Division LAPD patrol units receive a call for a "415 man" assaulting a woman at the location.
3:44 p.m. Stadium Way and Academy Road, Elysian Park
Northeast Division LAPD are on the scene but the alleged "415 man" has already fled the scene. The patrol unit informs any other responding unit that the incident is "code 4," where no other units need respond, the situation is under control.
August 1, 2011
8:03 a.m. 10400 block of Sunland Boulevard, Sunland
Foothill Division LAPD patrol units are called to respond to a citizen holding a "211 GTA" (attempted armed robbery, grand theft auto) at the parking lot location. Apparently a person was able to foil a possible car theft and hold the alleged robber until police can respond. Foothill patrol units are directed to respond, "code 3."
8:04 a.m. 10400 block of Sunland Boulevard, Sunland
Foothill patrol units are given additional information describing the suspect and the citizen detaining the suspect. The alleged car thief is described as a male "wearing blue jeans, a green shirt with a black sweatshirt over it." The citizen is described as a male "wearing a green striped shirt and white pants." They are in the parking lot "between the Sizzler and the Ralphs."
8:06 a.m. 10400 block of Sunland Boulevard, Sunland
An LAPD helicopter is responding to the scene, and asks for more descriptors to distinguish the two men. The dispatcher tells the air unit (helicopter crew) that the alleged suspect is "20- to 30-years-old" and the detaining citizen is in his 50's.
8:08 a.m. 10400 block of Sunland Boulevard, Sunland
The LAPD helicopter is now directly overhead of the incident scene and directing the Foothill Division patrol units to the exact location of the alleged car thief and the citizen. It appears the citizen is forcibly holding down the man on the ground in the parking lot. The helicopter officer observes the alleged car thief trying to escape, but the citizen is able to keep him in place.
8:08 a.m. 10400 block of Sunland Boulevard, Sunland
The Foothill patrol unit has now arrived at the scene to assist the citizen. Then the patrol unit radios to the other responding units, "code 4, suspect is in custody."
