The coroner's office today identified a 26-year-old man who was fatally shot, dying near a vehicle that had crashed into a carport wall at a Tarzana apartment complex.

The shooting victim was identified as Tarzana resident Miles Rose, according to Lt. Dave Smith of the coroner's office.

Rose approached a witness, then collapsed and died, he said. Investigators were not immediately certain where he was shot.

"Based on witnesses' statements, our victim had staggered from this car -- we're not sure if he had been in the car or not -- and that two other people were seen running from the car after it collided with this wall," LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon said at the scene.
