Brush Fire Breaks Out Along I-15 In Escondido

The CHP issued a Sig-alert at 1:25 p.m.

ESCONDIDO, CA – Firefighters battled a second brush fire Tuesday in San Diego's North County.

The blaze broke out alongside the northbound lanes of Interstate 15, near Deer Springs Road in Escondido, according to the California Highway Patrol. The fire was first reported shortly before 1 p.m.

The slow-moving fire, called the Deer Fire, burned about 2 acres and did not threaten any structures, according to Cal Fire. By 1:30 p.m., crews had stopped forward progress of the flames.

The CHP issued a Sig-alert and shut down the fourth northbound lane. North Centre City Parkway at Frontage Road was also closed, according to the Escondido Fire Department. Traffic was backed up in the area.

Crews were expected to remain at the scene for about two hours. Officials advised the public to drive with caution in the area.

Another brush fire broke out Monday night near Daley Ranch in unincorporated Escondido. That blaze, called the Rincon Fire, burned 4 acres. As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, the fire was 50 percent contained, officials said.
