📰 News we're reading

• Escondido celebrates improvements to Creek Trail (times-advocate.com) — Escondido residents can now enjoy a cleaner, safer, and more inviting Escondido Creek Trail after recent upgrades added new lighting, signage, landscaping, murals, fitness stations, and children's play areas. City leaders celebrated the improvements with a ribbon cutting at Date Street Bridge, highlighting 1.1 miles of new walking paths, better crossings, and more family-friendly gathering spots along the creek.

• Free blues concert draws packed crowd to Hidden City Sounds (times-advocate.com) — Escondido's California Center for the Arts drew a standing-room-only crowd for a free Hidden City Sounds blues concert that spilled into Grape Day Park. After a high-energy night with The Anthony Cullins Trio and the Bill Magee Blues Band, locals are invited back for the final Hidden City Sounds show on October 9 featuring LP and the Vinyl with a community jazz jam.

• San Diego County will stop letting federal immigration agents train at local firing ranges (thetimes-tribune.com) — San Diego County just voted to stop letting ICE, but not necessarily Border Patrol, train at its firing ranges, a move that affects Escondido residents as part of the county. The decision follows community pressure and mirrors debates in Escondido and other cities over whether to keep allowing federal immigration agents to use local training facilities.
