📰 News we're reading

1. Iconic California brewery to close longtime home, putting more than 200 jobs at risk (newsbreak.com) — Sapporo USA is shutting down its longtime Escondido brewing and bistro facilities, putting about 220 local jobs at risk as operations move to other states. While Stone-branded beer will continue under new ownership elsewhere, Escondido loses a major craft beer landmark and economic anchor that has drawn visitors and supported local workers for decades.

2. After More Than a Decade, Inland Rail Trail Finally Reaches Central Vista (streetsblog.org) — Escondido residents can now ride or walk over 12 continuous, traffic-separated miles from the Escondido Transit Center through San Marcos into central Vista along the Inland Rail Trail. A newly opened Vista segment closes another gap, while a final two-mile stretch still awaits funding and design, leaving full Escondido-to-Oceanside connectivity a work in progress.

3. Becerra campaigns in Escondido as California governor's race enters final stretch (10news.com) — Escondido residents saw Democratic gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra stop in town to rally supporters and local legislative candidates as the governor's race heads into its final weeks. He highlighted his polling lead, business backing, and promises of practical results, while his campaign continued to sidestep a one-on-one interview request from ABC 10News.

4. Record-Breaking October Heat Wave Refuses To Let Go Of San Diego County (patch.com) — Escondido has been sweltering, hitting 106 degrees Monday and 105 Tuesday in a record-breaking October heat wave that's gripping San Diego County. Forecasters expect dangerous heat and coastal flooding risks to linger through Thursday before a gradual cooldown and possible rain arrive this weekend, so residents should stay cool, hydrated, and cautious near the coast.

5. Oceanside Voters to Decide on Another Sales Tax Measure (voiceofsandiego.org) — Escondido gets a brief mention as Oceanside voters prepare to decide Measure S, a proposed half‑cent sales tax that would match rates in several North County cities, including Escondido. The measure would fund pier repairs, public safety facilities, roads, and beach work, while critics worry about higher costs and back‑to‑back tax hikes after Measure X's extension.
