Resident Shoots Armed Intruder in Eureka: Suspect Arrested Following Hospital Release (crimevoice.com) — A Eureka resident on Walnut Street shot a man who allegedly forced his way into the home Monday afternoon, prompting a large response from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office and Eureka Police. Deputies say the suspect, a 30-year-old Eureka man, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, then jailed on burglary, firearm, trespass, and parole violation charges, while investigators deemed the resident acted in self-defense.

Eureka City Council Advances Plan to Restrict Data Centers, Potentially Allowing Small Facilities in Industria (lostcoastoutpost.com) — Eureka's City Council is steering toward zoning rules that would allow only small data centers in industrial zones, with strict permits and likely bans on large power-hungry facilities. At the same meeting, the council advanced a registry for vacant and foreclosed properties, funded the next phase of a new operations and emergency center, and reviewed options for improving the Elk River Water Treatment Plant outfall.

Let's All Take a Gander at Eureka's Proposed New Parking Districts in Old Town and Downtown (lostcoastoutpost.com) — If you park in Old Town or Downtown Eureka, the city is proposing new parking districts with more two-hour limits in the busiest blocks and longer-term options shifted to specific streets and lots. City staff will brief the Eureka City Council on October 6 about reshaping time limits and encouraging employees and residents to use free public lots, permits, and mobile-pay parking.

'Gift of Appreciation' (times-standard.com) — A longtime Eureka service club is celebrating its 125th year by giving monthly $125 "Gifts of Appreciation" to nonprofits, most recently supporting the Redwood Youth Business Alliance's work with young entrepreneurs. The Eureka Woman's Club, founded in 1901 and still active with 64 members, invites new members to join its cultural and community programs benefiting Humboldt County residents.
