Carmichael Chamber of Commerce Optimistic About 2011
New changes, incoming president and increased budget hold much promise for Carmichael.
Closing in on its 63rd year of operation, the Carmichael Chamber of Commerce has gone through countless changes since 1947 -- and 2010 was certainly no exception.
The year began with the hiring of administrative assistant Linda Melody, who brought a wealth of experience to the table. The chamber's website was completely redesigned, adding a new logo and other features, while the office at 6825 Fair Oaks Blvd., was remodeled.
The aesthetic improvements seemed to trickle down with a measurably positive effect as membership grew by 16 percent over the course of the year.

As 2011 approaches, there is a sense of enthusiasm in the air for what lies ahead, and optimism is the resounding theme for the new year. The office has been inundated with phone calls inquiring about membership.
"It's the way people are trying to grow their businesses," Melody said. "They are networking and developing relationships with people -- and from that, their businesses often reap the benefits."

At the Dec. 21 business-to-business luncheon, outgoing chamber board president Trish Harrington was recognized as the board prepares to welcome Chris Meyer as her replacement.
"I've enjoyed meeting all the wonderful people around Carmichael," Harrington said.
Meyer has been a staple in the community for many years and owns Lind Brothers Mortuary, in business since 1964. He brings plenty of experience and business savvy, not to mention his familiarity with the community of Carmichael, and inherits an increased budget for 2011.
Along with the monthly business luncheons and mixers, chamber officials will hold regular town hall-style meetings to discuss issues including crime, homelessness, and others facing the city.
Chamber leaders also plan to address concerns about the development of the Fair Oaks Boulevard corridor and bringing businesses back to Carmichael.
As Melody prepares to conclude her tenure, she offered a few parting thoughts for the members and incoming board members as well as the new president.
"The chamber cares about the community," she said. "We don't just want to take in, we want to give back as well. We're here to help the businesses, the residents and the community.
"Our new board is going to hit the ground running. They are the engine that gets things moving. We are excited about growing this chamber and helping our business to grow as well."
It looks as though 2011 will be a prosperous and fruitful year for the community of Carmichael and the chamber of commerce is going to be a big part of future growth and business development.
