Brother Benno’s, a nonprofit serving North County, San Diego’s homeless and working poor, put much of the inventory at the store, located at 3955 Mission Ave., on discount to clear space for new items.
Thrift store customers can find 50% savings on clothes and accessories (bras, ties, belts, scarves, hats, gloves, socks, underwear), purses, shoes, suitcases, lamps, area rugs appliances and kitchenware. Customers can find 20% savings on costume jewelry, China sets and furniture.
The sale excludes seasonal items.
Phoenix-based market research company BusinessRate named the Brother Benno’s Thrift Shop a top five winner for Oceanside in the thrift store category in its Top 5 of 2026 Awards. BusinessRate also named the Brother Benno’s store No. 1 for San Luis Rey in 2025.
Harold and Kay Kutler started Brother Benno’s as an Oceanside soup kitchen named for Brother Benno Garrity, a Benedictine monk known for his tireless service to poor and struggling people in the area. Brother Benno’s estimates that its original kitchen served more than 470,800 meals.
Over time, to accommodate critical needs in the region, Brother Benno’s expanded beyond food to offer programs; essential items; food and outreach services; and clothing.
Since its 1983 inception, Brother Benno’s has provided more than 5 million meals, more than 1.5 million clothing articles and more than a million hugs to its constituents and rescued more than 8 million pounds of food from the local landfill.
About Brother Benno’s Thrift Shop
Brother Benno’s Thrift Shop is North Country locals favorite thrift shopping experience.
The Thrift Shop sells new and gently used items at low prices everyone can afford. These items include clothing for the whole family, household goods, shoes, collectables, purses, books, movies, jewelry and on occasion, designer clothing. The Thrift Shop also carries a large selection of gently used furniture at very affordable prices. Furniture purchased at the Shop can be delivered for a small fee.
The Thrift Shop also collects clothing donations for those in need, especially new socks and underwear for both men and women. These items are provided to our homeless guests through the Clothing Room located at the Brother Benno’s Center.
