Accused Burglar Caught By Surveillance Camera

FREMONT, CA — Do you wonder about the effectiveness of remote video cameras in stopping crime?

Early Sunday morning, a caller told Fremont Police that he was watching live video surveillance of a man trying to disable the video camera, then accessing the reporting party's work trucks parked on PG&E property near Auto Mall Road and Fremont Boulevard, according to police.

Several officers responded to the area. Officer Jason Macciola spotted a white van pulling out near an adjacent restaurant and conducted a traffic stop. The man who had called police went to the scene and positively identified the suspect.

Police report that the stolen items were recovered and returned.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession of known stolen property.
