Coroner Identifies SF Woman Killed in I-580 Crash Involving Fremont Man on Friday

The collision occurred shortly before 4:20 a.m.

The Alameda County coroner’s bureau has released the name of a woman killed early Friday morning in a crash on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 in Castro Valley.

Danielle Reyes, 25, was a resident of San Francisco. Reyes was a passenger in a 2014 Kia that veered into the median shortly after 4:20 a.m., overturning and ejecting both occupants near the 164th Avenue off-ramp. The Kia was driven by a 32-year-old Fremont man who suffered major injuries in the crash.

A 2006 Honda subsequently struck the Kia, starting a fire and causing minor injuries to the Honda’s driver and major injuries to a good Samaritan who had stopped to help the Kia’s occupants. Traffic was temporarily diverted off of the highway, but all lanes had reopened by about 7:20 a.m. Friday. CHP officials said Friday that drugs were thought to be a factor in the initial crash but they did not have more details today about the investigation.
