Fremont Homeless Navigation Center: Meeting Tuesday
City staff has been working to establish criteria to evaluate possible locations for a Navigation Center.
FREMONT, CA — Fremont's plan to establish a Navigation Center for the homeless, a place that acts as both a shelter and a clearinghouse of services under one roof that aims to guide people to permanent housing, will be discussed at a Special City Council Meeting-Work Session on Tuesday, June 18, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.
The plan is for city staff to provide an update on Fremont’s overall homeless efforts and to establish criteria to evaluate possible locations for a Navigation Center. News last month that the city was actively exploring the establishment of a Navigation Center at Niles Discovery Church drew opposition from some concern neighbors.
"Fremont is actively engaged in finding solutions to help some of our city's most vulnerable homeless residents find safe housing options," said City Manager Mark Danaj in a written release in response to the opposition. "While the City is exploring multiple sites to build a future Navigation Center, I want to assure the community that no formal agreements have been approved at any particular site. This is not a done deal. A substantial amount of work would need to take place before such a project would be ready for City Council consideration."
