Fremont Police Release Video, Seek Public's Help Solving Case of Destroyed Dam

Fremont Police investigators release update on dam vandalism investigation:

Detectives investigating the May 21 vandalism of a dam that led to the loss of 50 million gallons of water are seeking help from the public in solving the case. Investigators hope surveillance video of the crime as well as a $10,000 reward from the victim will lead to information that will identify the suspects.

In the early morning hours of May 21, 2015, the Alameda County Water District was the victim of an act of vandalism that destroyed district equipment and sent nearly 50 million gallons of needed water rushing down the Alameda Creek. Three suspects entered a restricted area of Alameda Creek in the Niles area and intentionally damaged an inflatable dam – an essential facility used in ACWD’s operations to recharge the Niles Cone Groundwater Basin, one of the district’s main water supplies.

The water lost to the vandalism was to serve the residents and businesses of Fremont, Newark and Union City, and was enough to supply the needs of nearly 500 homes for one year.

Video surveillance from the night of the crime revealed three (3) suspects responsible for the act. Based on the surveillance images the suspects are described as follows:

Suspect #1: Adult male, medium build, short cropped hair, wearing long sleeved shirt, and unknown colored pants.

Suspect #2: Unknown aged subject, thin/medium build, wearing hooded sweatshirt with hood up, and unknown color pants.

Suspect #3: Unknown aged subject, thin/medium build, wearing light colored shirt and unknown color pants.


The Alameda County Water District is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for this crime. The surveillance video is posted on the Fremont Police Department website and on its social media sites.
