The event is hosted as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a nationwide effort to combat the opioid epidemic.

FREMONT, CA — Have unwanted prescription drugs? The Fremont Police Department can help.

As part of "National Prescription Drug Take Back Day," the Fremont Police Department, with the help of the Drug Enforcement Administration, will be hosting a free event on Saturday, April 25, to help anyone looking to dispose of any unwanted prescription drugs anonymously.

"Found some unneeded medications during your spring cleaning? Don't just throw them out," Fremont Police said in a statement Thursday morning. "If improperly disposed of, they can contribute to medication misuse, drug addiction or contamination of the water supply. "
