Lady Gaga to Sing National Anthem at Super Bowl 50
The singer will perform the "Star Spangled Banner" before the big game Sunday.
Singer Lady Gaga, best known for her bold fashion statements and such hits as Poker Face and Bad Romance, will sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl 50, joined by Academy Award winning actress Marlee Matlin, who will perform the song in American Sign Language.
The performance would be just one of many recent high-profile appearances for the singer, who will also perform a tribute to the late David Bowie at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards the following week.
At her acceptance speech at the 2016 Golden Globes, Gaga said she always wanted to be an “actor before a singer.” She received the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel.
Known for her activism on LGBT issues and women’s rights, she most recently released Till it Happens to You, a song that appeared alongside the documentary, “The Hunting Ground,” a film that captured the lives of young people affected by rape. In 2010, she called on lawmakers to repeal, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
Fans won’t be devoid of musical entertainment at the event. World-famous rock band Coldplay will play the halftime show along with Beyonce.
The Denver Broncos will face the Carolina Panthers Feb. 7 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
