Ohlone College Receives $500,000 Donation
The Fremont Bank Foundation gift will be used on the new Academic Core Buildings.

FREMONT, CA — Ohlone College has received a huge boost from Fremont Bank Foundation: a $500,000 donation for the new Academic Core Buildings. In honor of the gift, an area of the fourth floor of the Learning Commons will be named The Fremont Bank Collaboration Center, and will include an informal learning area, foyer/lobby, math learning center quiet room, collaborative math room, and study rooms.
The new Academic Core includes the Science Center, Arts Building, and the Learning Commons.
“We are grateful for all of the support that Fremont Bank and the Fremont Bank Foundation have shown the College,” saysDr. Gari Browning, President and Superintendent of the Ohlone Community College District. “Their support is a testament to their mission of serving the Fremont community.”

Fremont Bank and the Fremont Bank Foundation have supported Ohlone since the College’s inception in 1967.
“Fremont Bank and its Foundation have always been strong supporters of education in our community,” says Brian Hughes, Vice President of Fremont Bank. “The success of our future comes from the education we receive today. If you look around the United States and see a great community, you can bet they have a great educational system. Ohlone College has a proven track record of being an exceptional institute of learning and that’s why we are supporting them on this project.”

The Academic Core Buildings will include open spaces for group discussions and student meetings and will house classrooms, laboratories, and office spaces coexisting on the same floors to encourage campus collaboration.
Designed to be LEED Gold Certified they will include LED lighting, a central utilities plant and geothermal heat pump system, a solar hot water heating system, and a 1-megawatt photovoltaic system. The interiors will include reclaimed redwood taken from the original Ohlone College buildings.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2019.
