Passenger Dies After Driver Allegedly Collides With Traffic Barriers At High Speed: Police
The driver was hospitalized before being arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, police said.
FREMONT, CA —A passenger in a Dodge Challenger died after being involved in a collision in Fremont early Saturday morning.
The driver suffered unspecified injuries and was hospitalized before being arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, according to a statement from the Fremont Police Department.
The vehicle was being driven southbound on Grimmer Boulevard at a "very high rate of speed" before colliding with traffic barriers at a curve in the road between Irvington Avenue and Carol Avenue, according to the Police Department's statement.

Police responded to the collision at about 1:42 a.m. and found the injured driver and seriously injured passenger, who was declared dead at the scene.
The cause of the solo-vehicle collision was under investigation as of Sunday and police said impairment due to drugs or alcohol had not been ruled out. The driver was booked into Santa Rita Jail after being treated for injuries.

It marked the fifth fatal traffic collision of 2026, according to the Fremont Police Department.
