As we look back on our successes in 2014 and look ahead to 2015, it’s clear that Fremont has a very bright future to look forward to! Here are just a few highlights from the State of the City address.
- Significant expansions by companies like Delta, Seagate, Lam Research, Western Digital, and ThermoFisher have totaled nearly $500 million of private investment in the Fremont community.
- Solar City leased the former Solyndra facility to house its Silevo panel division, a move that speaks volumes for Fremont’s cleantech sector and the continued growth of the Warm Springs Innovation District.
- The Crossings is set to extend Fremont Boulevard to Dixon Landing Road, creating a significant new commuter connection to Silicon Valley.
- The Warm Springs Community Plan was recently approved, and will guide development of our Innovation District. All great news, considering the Warm Springs/South Fremont BART station is coming closer to completion and is slated to open in December 2015.
- We’re making headway on the construction of the new Downtown and creating Fremont’s social heartbeat, which will serve as the community’s gathering space to eat, play, mingle and connect. New programming is in the works including a farmers’ market, in addition to the return of the Chamber’s popular Fremont Street Eats, our very own gourmet food truck event.
- We’re doing our part to help Fremont win the Georgetown University Energy Prize by upgrading City facilities with energy and water efficient systems and solar installations, and replacing existing street lights with LEDs. And to assist others fulfill their sustainability goals, we continue to fast-track our solar permitting process and have also opened an Express Permit Counter.
