Vicious Dog Bites Off Woman's Finger

Fremont Police shot the dog to stop it from attacking two women, who were covered in blood. Both were taken to the hospital.

FREMONT, CA — Fremont police were forced to shoot a dog, reportedly a large pit bull, on Sunday night after it turned on its owner during a fight with another dog.

"It's not the way we want things to end, but we were dealing with an extremely vicious dog," Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

According to police, a call came in at 8:08 p.m. of a dog that was attacking two females and "chewing them up" at Vallejo Mill Historical Park. Officers arrived to find two women covered in blood attempting to control what police said was "an extremely violent dog."

The owner had a serious wound to her hand and the other woman had been bitten also. Bosques said the dog bit a finger off of one victim.

Fremont police said the officers on the scene tried to control the dog with a snare pole, but the dog attacked the pole and violently shook it, and started to shake free from it. It was then that an officer shot the dog.
