Volunteers Save Senior Center's Food During Power Outage

This could have had a disastrous outcome, but plenty of people came forward to help.

FREMONT, CA — A power outage last Thursday at the Fremont Senior Center in Central Park forced the cancellation of lunch, as Patch reported at the time. Behind the scenes a much bigger drama was unfolding. The center was in danger of losing its entire supply of frozen food because of the outage.

But, the Fremont Fire Department reports, a whole bunch of good people and businesses stepped forward to prevent that from happening.

The Fire Department's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Volunteers sprang into action, loading the food into a truck provided by Sysco Food Distribution company. Also doing its part was Fremont Unified School District.
