RM Of BTS To Highlight Korean Artists Through Special Exhibition At SFMOMA

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Missed BTS when they performed in the Bay Area back in May?

Well, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is offering a chance to get up close and personal with one band member — through his personal art collection, of course.

Kim Nam-joon, better known as RM, is partnering with SFMOMA to create the "Between You and Me" exhibition that will feature more than 200 pieces of "modern and contemporary Korean artworks in conversation with artworks from around the world," including pieces owned by the BTS star.

Many of these pieces have never been publicly presented in the United States, according to the SFMOMA.

"We live in an age defined by boundaries," the BTS star said in an online statement. "This exhibition at SFMOMA reflects those boundaries: between East and West, Korea and America, the modern and the contemporary, the personal and the universal."

Some of the Korean artists in the BTS star's collection include Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rehyun, Kwon Okyon, Kim Yun Shin, To Sangbong and Chang Ucchin, museum officials said.

The exhibition will also highlight American and European artists such as Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe and Paul Klee.

"I don’t want to prescribe how these works should be seen; whether out of curiosity or study, all perspectives are welcome," RM said. "My only hope is that this exhibition can be a small but sturdy bridge for many."

The exhibit opens on Oct. 3 and will run through Feb. 7, museum officials said online. Exhibition tickets can be found here.
