Fresno water and sewer rates could increase in 2027 (fresnoland.org) — Fresno residents could soon see changes to their water and sewer bills as the City Council considers moving forward on a five-year rate adjustment plan that starts in 2027. City leaders are split over whether the hikes are strictly for aging infrastructure or also tied to future Southeast Development Area projects, and a public hearing is tentatively set for December.
   

2. Fresno County ramps up work on new garbage hauling deal (fresnoland.org) — Fresno County leaders are shaping a new decade-long garbage hauling deal that could change pickup maps, add drop-off and compost events, and tackle illegal dumping in neighborhoods like Tarpey Village and Sunnyside. Supervisors also advanced emergency-style help and a feasibility study for Shaver Springs' troubled water system, and signaled interest in taking over Fresno's controversial SEDA growth plan if the city backs out.
   

3. Justin Garza High School students bring mental health project to statewide NAMI conference (abc30.com) — Fresno's Justin Garza High School students are taking their student-created "Buddy Box" mental health project from local elementary classrooms to a statewide NAMI conference in Anaheim. Their sensory-filled boxes and bilingual resources are designed to help younger Fresno-area students talk about emotions, manage stress, and give teachers simple tools to support children's mental health early.
   

4. Topgolf under construction at Valley Children's as nonprofit begins retail development (fresnobee.com) — A major new Topgolf complex is rising at Valley Children's Hospital along Highway 41, bringing a large entertainment option and hundreds of jobs within easy reach of Fresno residents. The nonprofit hospital says this first phase of its Echelon retail and entertainment development will help fund children's healthcare, with future plans likely including a hotel and more commercial projects nearby.
   

5. Jim Oppliger, famed prosecutor who handled one of Fresno most heinous crimes, has died (fresnobee.com) — Fresno County is remembering former prosecutor and Superior Court Judge Jim Oppliger, who died Saturday at 79 after a long legal career rooted in Fresno. He was best known for leading the prosecution in the notorious Ewell family murder case and mentoring a new generation of local prosecutors, including his own son and step-daughter.
