Xfinity Brings New WiFi-Based Home Protection to Fresno Customers

For many Fresno households, home WiFi connects far more than laptops and smartphones. Streaming devices, gaming systems, smart speakers, cameras, thermostats and other connected technology all rely on the same network, creating more convenience and more potential entry points for online threats.

Now, eligible Xfinity Internet customers in Fresno have access to WiFi Shield, a new home protection service included at no additional cost with an Advanced Xfinity Gateway. WiFi Shield is part of Xfinity Shield, Comcast's new platform that brings cybersecurity, family controls and home-awareness features together through the home WiFi network.

The launch comes as households continue adding connected devices throughout the home. Comcast says the average Xfinity customer now connects 36 devices to WiFi, and the company's network identifies, filters and blocks an average of 30 million threats each day.

Protection Built Into Home WiFi

Rather than requiring customers to install security software on individual devices, WiFi Shield works through the Xfinity Gateway and brings several protection features together in the Xfinity app.

Xfinity CyberSecure helps automatically protect devices connected to the Gateway from malware, phishing attempts, hackers and other online threats before they reach devices in the home. Because the protection works at the WiFi level, it helps protect connected devices throughout the household.

WiFi Shield also includes an opt-in feature called WiFi Motion, which uses the Gateway and connected WiFi devices to detect motion inside the home without requiring cameras or traditional motion sensors. The feature can send notifications through the Xfinity app when activity is detected. WiFi Motion does not record video, capture images or identify individuals.

For families, Family Settings provide tools to create profiles, group devices, manage screen time, pause WiFi access and establish schedules for household devices.

Customers can also customize their experience through Home Watch, Away Watch and Dark Watch modes, which are designed for different times of day and household situations.

Optional Upgrade Available

Customers seeking additional home-protection features can upgrade to Shield Select for $15 per month. The service includes all WiFi Shield features plus an indoor camera, door/window sensor, cloud video storage and urgent-response functionality. Shield Select also includes AI-enhanced camera capabilities designed to distinguish among people, pets, vehicles and package deliveries.

WiFi Shield is included at no additional cost for eligible Xfinity Internet customers with a compatible Advanced Xfinity Gateway.

As households continue adding more connected devices, Xfinity Shield is designed to help customers manage and protect their connected homes through technology already built into the network.

WiFi Shield is now available nationwide through the Xfinity app for eligible Xfinity Internet customers with Advanced Xfinity Gateways.
