Some plays, a conference about staying in school, a middle-school fundraiser and an international children's film festival are the Gilroy Patch recommendations for this week's klds planner.

Help out Brownell Middle School by eating out Thursday night, see an in-town production by Gilroy kids of "Alice In Wonderland" and then consider another children's play showing in Hollister. On Saturday, attend an important conference in Salinas about keeping middle and high school students in school and then, if you are up for it, an international children's film festival. ย

Why Go: The first Thursday of the month is when the Brownellย Middle School Parents Club goes all out at Papa Murphy's. The restaurant donates a portion of its proceeds on Thursday to the school, so support the effort by having a pizza dinner there, and help yourself to a guilt-free night of dinner out.

Why Go: Learn what you and your children can do to keep more students in school. State Assemblyman Luis A. Alejo hosts thisย "โKnock Out the Dropoutโย summit. There are speakers, panels and workshops forย middle school and high school students. Special guests include Cain Velasquez, a heavyweight world champion; Luis Valdez, founder of El Teatro Campesino; and Chuyito Ramirez of Radio Bilingue.

Where/When: Granada Theater, 336 Fifth St., Hollister. Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m., and Sunday, 2 p.m.
Why Go: The play opened last weekend, and we told you about it then. If you couldn't take your kids to see this play last week, see if you can make it this weekend.ย This is the theatrical version of the children's classic tale about the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a spider named Charlotte.ย

Why Go: This is a special offering. More than 80 short films from around the world have been selected for screening. See a few films or see them all. You and your child can even meet with some of the filmmakers.ย
