Why Go: A free movie, something you can do together as a family. The Gilroy Demonstration Garden will sponsor "First Wednesday Film Nights" with Lizarran Restaurant. To kick off the series, the movie is Fresh, a film that looks at the way we process food and growing our own food in local communities.

Why Go: To support the Brownell Middle School! And have a delicious pizza dinner! The Parents Club hosts a Papa Murphy's fundraiser on the first Thursday of each month. Present the club's invitation (available on the Brownell Middle School website) at Papa Murphy's.

Why Go: To help your child learn about art. And it will be something you will do together, because you will have to stick around. Wear paint-friendly clothing. Concessions for sale. Arrive early because space is limited๏ปฟ!

Where/When: Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Pkwy, Santa Clara; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: This is a premier model show and a contest. There will be model trains, planes, cars and more. There will be more than 100 modelers there and 400 entries. An eyeful of models to look at and lots of "make and take" for kids and raffles for all!

Where/When:ย Westgate Mall, 1600 Saratoga Ave, San Jose; Saturday, 10 am. to 3 p.m.
Why Go: To learn about more than 80 different summer camp offerings for your child this summer.
